Placement in levels will be determined by Pacific DanceArts
All new students 8+ require a placement class.
Level 1 Age 3-4 (Level is for 2 years)
Explores how ballet is organized through patterns, structure and storytelling. Students will learn how music provides the fabric of dancing through, beat, melody and harmony structure. Some basic French terminology that is used in ballet will be in introduced.
Level 2 Age 5-6 (Level is for 2 years)
The basic structure of a ballet class is introduced, staring with some simple stretching, a short barre, followed by centre work. Ballet steps such as plié and tendu for the first time are used at the barre. Continued work on musically and the relationship that music has with dance is further developed.
Level 3 Age 7-8 (Level is for 2 years)
Students continue their development of ballet vocabulary through barre and centre work. Exercises emphasize and develop balance, posture, and body alignment. Focus on the importance of musicality and self-expression is encouraged through improvisation. This level offers opportunities to take Jazz and Contemporary classes. A performance class is also offered to students who demonstrate a level of commitment.
Level 4 Age 8-9 (Level is for 2 years)
A student understands and can safely execute ballet fundamentals. This level emphasizes the foundational ballet building blocks of proper turnout of legs, pointing feet, posture and body alignment.
A performance class is also offered to students who demonstrate a level of commitment.
Elementary levels Age 9-10 ( Level is for 2 years)
Elementary has an increased time commitment. Pointe work is introduced for girls who are physically ready ( determined by the teacher) . This critical level lays the foundation of the classical ballet vocabulary, and moves at a pace which facilitates understanding and safety. This level offers opportunities to take Jazz and Contemporary classes. A performance class is also offered to students who demonstrate a level of commitment.
Intermediate : Age 11+
Students in this level will attend three to four times a week with added classes in Stretch, Variations and Contemporary. Building upon their foundation from the Elementary level students. Completing the Intermediate level will give the student thorough knowledge of ballet vocabulary. Placement in the Advanced level will be based on the student’s progression as well as their level of commitment to further training.
Advanced Age 13+
Advanced is an increased commitment of hours. The advanced student is training to refine their technique and adding a more variety of classes to their training. More performance opportunities will be given at this level, as well extra rehearsals will be outside of regular scheduled class times. Students who complete this level are eligible to audition for the ½ Intensive Training Program
Contemporary
Contemporary explores the use of space, movement, rhythm, musicality and the student's own creativity.
Performance Group ( Level 4, Elementary & Intermediate )
The Performance Group was created to give more performance opportunities to the students who demonstrate a certain level of commitment. This class is chorography based, a student will learn new chorography and set repertoire and will have several opportunities in the year to perform what is learned. Performing in an essential part of ballet that builds up confidence and poise each time a dancer takes to the stage.
Men's Technique: Age 13+
The class is open for male dancers who have had several years of training in ballet. The focus is on refining the steps that are unique to men in ballet. Some part of the class will also be dedicated to learning variations from ballets as a way of refining the steps.

This program does not require approval by Private Training Institiutions Branch (PTIB) of the ministry of Post -Secondary Education and Future Skills. As such, PTIB did not review this program
