Brief Program Description
Coastal City Ballet is a youth oriented, performance –based program. Coastal City Ballet’s mandate is to provide young dancers a bridge between training as a student and becoming dance artists. Coastal City Ballet provides consistent classes and rehearsals leading to scheduled performance opportunities. Students in the program receive rigorous full-time training, individual coaching, audition support and resume preparation.
The objective of Coastal City Ballet is to continue the development of young dancers’ technical and artistic capabilities in preparation for a possible professional career in the field of dance through: Daily ballet / technique classes with a setup similar to professional ballet company; Daily rehearsals in preparation for scheduled live performances during the season; Resume works shops / lectures; Master classes with well-known / experienced professionals in the field; Original choreography by established dance choreographers and; Support for dancers to participate in live and video auditions.
Career Opportunities Students in the program are working towards professional dance careers or teaching positions. Occupations are not regulated.
Admission Requirements
Students aged sixteen and older with a minimum of one year intensive ballet training are eligible to apply for an audition to Coastal City Ballet by submitting a current dance resume and request for audition. Students enter this program upon attending an audition class or a video audition. The student is accepted into the program based on the discretion of the Artistic Director.

Other Materials Male students require ballet shoes and practice clothes for ballet class and rehearsals. Female students require ballet shoes, pointe shoes and practice clothes for ballet class and rehearsals.
Program Duration Coastal City Ballet runs from September to June however student admission is continuous throughout the duration of the season. Furthermore, students may withdraw from the program with 30 days notice.

Student Progress/ Assessment Methods
Verbal assessments are provided daily to allow students to progress throughout the program. Verbal assessments are the most valued, as a student repeats a limited number of steps and the visual feedback allows students to improve quickly. Written assessments are provided to students one-third of the way through the program and also at the end. Written assessments are completed by the Artistic Director and the School Director with additional advice from instructors. The written assessment includes a “Notes” section which gives students clarification on the various aspects of their assessment and aides them in their progress.
Attendance Expectations
Full attendance to all of the classes and rehearsals in the program is expected. Students who will be absent from classes or rehearsals due to an explained absence are required to notify the office as laid out in the school policy.
Dress Expectations
Coastal City Ballet requires a leotard (any colour) and tights for women, and a dance-belt, tights and shirt for men. Pink tights are required for classical ballet rehearsals. For contemporary/modern, Coastal City Ballet requires bare feet unless otherwise specified. Shorts that expose the dancers’ buttocks will not be accepted. Ribbons must be worn on pointe shoes.
Graduation Requirements
Coastal City Ballet is a continuous training program and therefore does not have a specific graduation point. It is the student’s decision, sometimes based on advice from Instructors, whether or not they will continue with the program or choose to withdraw.
